With those experiences in mind, we are so excited to introduce our new motion detected mailbox light! The RetroLight is a motion detected LED light which attaches to the top of your interior mailbox as show in the picture.
This nifty design uses a command strip that adheres to the top of your mailbox. That strip is then attached to a magnetic strip on the light itself. This allows for extremely easy removal when the batteries need to be changed.
Speaking of battery, the light detects daylight and doesn't come on when it is light outside so its not wasting battery turning on and off all the time. The light also shuts off automatically after 15 seconds with no motion.
This light is perfect for people who work late, their mailman delivers late in the day, or you just don't want any surprises when you stick your hand in your mailbox to get your mail. See it before it sees you!!
]]>This is a call we get a lot, and lets be honest chiseling your mailbox out isn't how anybody wants to spend their Saturday afternoon.... only to find it leaves your mailbox in a worse place than it was before. Thats why the Retrofit Rust Sleeve was invented! An easy no tools required 2 piece kit that creates a new body to your mailbox. The first piece is a flexible sleeve that is made out of heavy duty ABS (essentially a flexible plastic) that shapes to the top arch part of the mailbox. The second piece is the bottom tray that slides to a secure fit on the bottom of the mailbox creating a new shell, which equals dry mail again!!
Now what if the way back of your mailbox is rusty? We have found that over the years mailboxes shift and warp which has left it nearly impossible for us to create a piece that will perfectly fit the back of each mailbox. If the back wall of yours needs some help, Flex Seal is a great solution. AFTER installing your RetroFit Rust Sleeve use Flex Seal to create a barrier on the back of your mailbox, and you're good as new! Please note though that Flex Seal really will create a tight seal, and we mean tight... so make sure you're really really careful when applying it!
]]>The good news is that measuring your mailbox is pretty easy. The Postal Service has regulated the size and dimensions for traditional mailboxes for over 60 years now, making a universal door replacement possible regardless of the manufacturer.
The most consistent way to measure your mailbox is to measure the canister opening itself, not your old door. This is because USPS regulations dictate the opening size, not the door itself. This leaves some latitude, albeit minor, in the height of the actual doors across manufacturers which we will ignore.
To measure the width you want to place your tape measure on the outside of the canister of one side and measure outside to outside like the picture shows. For your height you want to go from the top of the arch to the bottom of the actual mailbox (where the bottom of the hinges are). Placing the tape measure on the floor of the mailbox will usually give you a smaller height by approximately 1/4".
Metal mailbox have a lip around the front opening of the mailbox where manufacturers curl the metal to remove sharp edges and to provide structural integrity. The RetroFit snaps into place behind this lip, securely holding the door in place. By measuring outside to outside, we are able to correctly size the opening without considering these ridges.
Most plastic mailboxes do not have lip at the front which prevents the RetroFit from snapping in place. This can be confusing as plastic mailboxes often times have similar size measurements to metal mailboxes. Unfortunately the RetroFit will not fit securely in place without that lip to snap behind.
Once you have your width and height measurements, you should be able to select one of the three standard USPS mailbox sizes that correspond to our Small, Large and Jumbo RetroFit doors. If you do not see a size that fits, or you still have questions, please do not hesitate to give us a call. This is a very common question and we can help avoid some of most common measuring mistakes.

That is why the Bayshore Mailbox Company's RetroFit line of products were born in the first place. After watching a neighbor spend his whole Saturday afternoon use a crowbar and chisel to frustratingly attempt to remove his rusty mailbox simply to replace the door, we knew there had to be a better way. The result was our unique snap-in replacement doors. The RetroFit products use the existing body of the mailbox structure to work for you, not against you, meaning no tools are needed to install our doors or internal rust sleeves! Just remove the old door and snap the new in place. Takes only minutes. You can learn more about these products, including informative videos and installation videos, at www.bayshoremailbox.com
